My brothers, John and Jim Carkin, and I send our love and heartfelt condolences to Michael’s family. We knew him from our summers in Utah with Dr. Yocom and Miss Shurr (our aunts). He delighted us, made us laugh, and was a wonderful dance teacher at USU, where I later worked. Special love to Irene, whom we also remember.

James Whelan

Mike was great guy a good friend and was a true leader. We started in Customs together in the same basic training class to become Customs Security Officers, more commonly known as Sky Marshals . When the program ended we both elected to remain in the Patrol Division working our way up to management positions . Mike worked on Long Island and was converted to a Senior Special Agent and then the Resident Agent in Charge. The office was very successful under Mike's leadership. He was able to bring together all of the different agencies and create a unified force that made an impact on crime on Long Island. Bob Van Etten the Customs SAC for NY recognized Mike's talent and took him with him to the Port Authority where he served as Bob's Deputy. Meanwhile I remained as a Supervisory Special Agent in
Customs until Mike and Bob brought me over to join them in the Port Authority . I served for ten years with them and retired in 2010. Shortly after I retired Bob died and Mike was selected to lead the Inspector General's Office. Throughout his career Mike was known for treating his employees fairly and was always thought of as a great boss. To his family I offer my sincere condolences. To my friend Rest In Peace.

I'll always be forever grateful to Michael. It's because of Michael I had an opportunity to attend The High School Of Performing Arts. It changed my destiny.

My deepest sympathies go out to michael’s family. I would like to extend my condolences to Mark Settembre. Michaels best friend and brother. He was always there for Michael and Elayne. A man I've grown to love. I'll always be eternally grateful to him.
The one person who deserves all the gratitude and appreciation is my sister Elayne. I've never known anyone stronger.
For six yrs she stood by his side caring for him.
The last few months have been torture for her. Due to the Corona virus the hospital was on ”Lock Down” she wasn't able to see him.
She never saw him again.
