Michael's obituary

Michael Lynn Schreck

May 21, 1959 – June 19, 2025

Michael “Mike” Schreck, 66, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 19, 2025, surrounded by family. After suffering a severe stroke and brain hemorrhage the day prior, Mike was lovingly kept comfortable at Centerpoint Medical Center as close friends and family gathered by his side to say goodbye. He took his final breath at 1:33 a.m., never alone and deeply loved.

Mike was born on May 21, 1959, in Independence, Missouri, to Barbara and Donald Schreck. He grew up attending Nativity School and Church and graduated from Van Horn High School in 1977. Known for his strong work ethic, Mike built a long career across several industries and most recently worked for Prime Flight Aviation Services before retiring.

Mike was a man of quiet faith who gave his life to Christ and was baptized as a believer. He found joy in the simple things—spending time with loved ones, telling stories around a campfire, and being outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, or camping (especially in Arkansas with Wayne and Betty Hall, one of his favorite places), Mike treasured the moments that brought people together. He looked forward each year to the big family fish fry in Sedalia, and he especially loved trips to Beaumont, Texas, to visit his Uncle Ted and extended family.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Donald; his eldest brother, Donald Eugene; his son, Austin Schreck; and his nephew, Darrin Schreck.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy; his son, Clinton, Jonathon Sidebottom (who was like a son to Mike); his brothers, Victor, Chris, and Norman; and his sisters-in-law, Linda, Dee Jae, and Lorie. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember his dry humor, steady presence, and generous heart.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a future date. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
