Michael Lee Green Obituary
Michael Lee Green, (Mike) age 69 of Big Lake Alaska, sadly passed away November 4th, 2022. Mike was born July 18th, to Brian Dale Green and Louise Ann Green in 1953.
Mike is survived by his children Megan Rhea Green, Michael Lucas Green, his grandchildren Victoria Rose Cheney, Joshua David Cheney, Lennox Michael Decker-Green, and his siblings Brian Dale Green and Pamela Kay Ellis.
Mike worked in construction and surveying on many major road projects throughout Alaska. He later worked as an independent contractor in Bellingham and Point Roberts Washington. In his later years, he continued doing handyman work in and around the Big Lake area of Alaska and drove the Wasilla to Anchorage People Movers bus route.
While in his 20’s, he constructed a hexagonal log cabin hewn from trees found on his family’s homesteaded property. His roots ran deep in the area. As a young boy, he, his brother Brian, with their stepfather, took part in the initial search to locate the untamed piece of property. After forging through dense underbrush, infested with mosquitos and bears a plenty, the property lines were vaguely established. Over time, this became the much treasured family homestead. The process of getting to and from Anchorage in the early days involved 4 modes of transportation; car, small plane, truck and boat.
In the early years of his marriage to Margaret (Maggie) Green, he re-assembled a dismantled World War II Quonset hut reclaimed from the military. Taking artistic license on the interior, he transformed it into a unique and cozy family home. He and Maggie started their family while living at the homestead with the birth of their daughter Megan and son Lucas. Mike lived out his years in his Quonset hut home.
As a young man, Michael loved puzzling out how things worked. He spent days pouring over manuals, troubleshooting the mechanical mysteries of his vintage trucks. He loved cooking and creating amazingly delicious meals out of whatever was on hand, (often involving lentils). He had a very deep love and appreciation for music and enjoyed gathering with friends and family around good food.
Michael is remembered as a compassionate, animal loving, gentle spirited man, upbeat (unless hungry), generous, and always up for an adventure.
