It was Christmas time at Aunt Mae and Uncle Reds in Marlin. Everyone was having a wonderful time. Aunt Mae always had the formal dining room open with enough food and drink for the town. ( Which was needed not just for us, but half the town would stop by while in town to visit other relatives. School friends, etc.) This Christmas was really special because Mark ( Mike's half brother) was there as well. Mama, Mike's grandmother and Norma, Mike's mother were there too. When time came for Norma to open her present from Mike and Mark, she screamed and laughed at the same time! They had gone in together and bought her roundtrip tickets to Europe. It would be the equivalent of someone buying you a house today. Norma was so excited and both Mike and Mark were so proud to be able to buy them for her! Big smiles from everyone!! Still one of my favorite Christmas memories!
Sometimes Uncle Mike would come pick my sister Diane and I up on the weekends to give Mom and Dad a break. Often he would take us down to Bull Creek about a mile down from the house Stacy and Ryan were raised in. Spicewood springs road was way out in the country back then. We would go play in the water and Uncle Mike would pop fireworks for us before we left. On this particular trip there was a washed out barbed wire fence we had to walk through to get to the water. Before it was time to go, he made sure we were away from the launching area next to the water, on the other side of the fence. Fireworks used to be a lot more powerful then. Well sir, he lit a big bottle rocket of some type and was walking back toward us when that thing took off. It sounded like a Soviet missile as it left the ground and about scared us all silly! His immediate reaction was to run toward us to get away from it but as he did so he ran through the barbed wire and it just about ripped his jeans completely off of him. Well I started laughing, then Diane started laughing and after he realized everyone was safe but he was a bit undressed then he started laughing too. Before long we were all laughing so hard our sides hurt. Just another fun memory of Uncle Mike!
I have so many fond memories of Uncle Mike. The first that comes to mind is when Mom, Dad, sister Diane, Uncle Mike and I were on our way to Marlin for Aunt Kathy's wedding to Uncle Dick. It was a happy, very Jovial trip until somewhere on the other side of Lott, Mike turned around and remarked to Dad that the trunk of the Corvair was open. Dad immediately pulled over to go check because all of our wedding clothes had been the last thing packed in so they could lay flat. Sure enough several had blown out so we turned back around and found them all together a couple of miles back down the highway. Once we were on our way again we began joking about having to were pajamas with robes etc. to the wedding in place of our clothes. It became just another time Uncle Mike saved the day!

O'My God! This is Thy servant and the son of Thy servant who hath believed in Thee and in Thy signs, and set his face towards Thee, wholly detached from all except Thee. Thou art, verily, of those who show mercy the most merciful.

What an exceptional man your dad was Stacy. It's clear that he had a big influence on you when it comes to generosity, intelligence, a love of the Lord, family and friends. You and your family are dear to us! We are there with you in spirit on Sat as we are traveling fro the holiday.

Dear Gerry-I always remember Mike as the missions bus driver. Giving of his time and talent to others. A sweet mild mannered man, committed to the LORD and you, his sweet, supportive, and loving wife. That picture says it all. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

That's a great picture, shows a lot of Mike's personality ... like he knows something we don't know yet.

Like ... what's heaven like? What does Jesus' voice sound like? What exactly does a "pearly gate" look like?

We'll be praying for your courage and strength.
