Michael's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, Michael "Mike" Henley. Born on November 16, 1954, he left us too soon on December 28, 2025.
Known to most as Mike but preferring Michael, he was a beacon of kindness in all aspects of life. Not only he was a talented artist with a skill for sketching, he was also blessed with a beautiful Tenor voice. Michael was a devout believer and follower of Christ, witnessing for the Lord at the Bethany Apostolic Church, now Greater Bethany Community Church. His faith carried him even through the darkest times, making him a true survivor of gun violence.
Beyond his faith, Michael brought joy to those around him with his love for fashion and jewelry. He was a true connoisseur and his unique style combined with an extraordinary persona, made him special in the hearts of many. He was a proud Bethanite and an awesome uncle to four wonderful nieces and nephews - Chazma, Ju.
Michael faced the highs and lows of life with grace and dignity, always inspiring and guiding those around him. He was a friend who wouldn't hesitate to congratulate you on your achievements, and he wouldn't shy away from pointing out mistakes – always in a loving way. When the going got tough, he was the one to tell you, "you're gonna be alright. Lean on and trust."
Predeceased by his father, Essie B. Henley, and mother, Bonnie L. Henley, Michael is survived by his loving sister, Tonya Henley. As we mourn his loss, we hold on to the memory of his smile, his voice, his love for life, and his unshakeable faith. He was, and forever will be, our dear brother.
A series of memorial services will be held in honor of Michael on January 22, 2026. The day will begin with a service at the Inglewood Park Cemetery at 10:00 PM, followed by another service at Calvary Baptist Church of Hawthorne at 10:30 PM. A celebration of his life will conclude the day at 6:00 PM at the Angelus Funeral Home.
Michael, an alumnus of Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles, CA, left his mark wherever he went and touched numerous lives with his loving soul. While we grieve, we also celebrate the life of a man who was not just a brother and an uncle, but a true friend and follower of Christ.
