Michael's obituary
Born in Bridgeport, CT in 1936 to Nina (Nash) Socovit and Herman Socovit, he grew up in Bridgeport,CT Brooklyn, NY and New Haven, CT. As a young man Michael was enlisted in the Navy and graduated from Wittenberg University in Ohio.
Moving to Moorestown and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, for many years Michael was involved in community theater, was an avid basketball player and fan, remembering the days of Bob Cousy and Bill Russell. (Michael being 6’8” himself.) He was a golfer and card player, and known for his “off colored” jokes and bringing friends and family together for birthday celebrations.
For years Michael was employed at Vining Industries and O’Cedar, traveling far and wide, which lent sway to his extensive repertoire of stories and jokes.
At some times Michael’s size and personality made him seem larger than life.
Michael is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janet Bernstein of Delray Beach, his four children, Lisa Goldwasser and partner, Steve Pollack of Marlton, New Jersey: Steven, and wife Gayle of Campbell, California: Douglas of New York City, and Samantha of Miami, Florida, and grandchildren: Juliana, Jaclyn, Max, Brian, Savannah, Sydney, Lily, Ziah & Ollie: sister, Barbra Wallack and husband, John Sullivan of Newburyport, MA, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, along with life-long friends.
Services will be held at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, Florida.
