Mike's obituary
Mike Hansen was someone you remember. He was as genuine as they come — cool and confident with zero ability to pretend. He pushed everyone around him to be their best. He would tell you things about yourself that would either make you hate him or change your life (sometimes both).
He was smart, fun, friendly, adventurous, hilarious, and generous. He took care of people. When he did a favor, he never expected anything in return. And he did lots of favors. He liked helping. He enjoyed making life better for the people he loved. And he loved us all so much.
Mike wasn’t religious but he was sort of an enlightened soul. He was always present, always totally engaged in whatever he was doing. He never stewed on things, never held grudges or expressed resentment. He spent his time building, fixing, and crafting things. He woke up every day and did more than most of us do in a month. He was truly very happy.
Mike was one-of-a-kind. A man with many skills and few needs. A man with many stories and few complaints. An incredible father. A wonderful husband. A great neighbor. A good coach, teacher, friend, brother, and grandfather.
Mike Hansen was an auto mechanic for 40+ years. He worked at Bill Sullivan Pontiac in Arlington Heights, IL for 19 years and then Crystal Lake Pontiac GMC (now Buick) for almost 20 years. Throughout his career he made a lot of great friends and was a mentor to many.
Mike was married to Deanna Hansen (née Sexton) for 43 years. Together, they raised two daughters, remodeled half a dozen homes, traveled the world, and must have laughed a million times. During Mike’s last 2 years, Deanna was a devoted and selfless caregiver, by his side until his very last breath.
Michael Hansen will live in our hearts forever. We will never forget his laugh or his sense of humor. We will never stop missing him.
Mike will be honored with a Celebration of Life on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Peg Bond Center in Batavia, IL. The service will be hosted by his family from 2pm-4pm CST. This will be an outdoor service (covered pavilion) and most of our family will be fully vaccinated at this point, so all are welcome to join us. If the weather is chilly, dress accordingly.
