I knew Michael at Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club where he was part of a card group. He was known as Newfie Mike. He had a gal friend there that I called Barbara. One evening he said to me, "David, her name is Susan." I responded, "no it isn't it's Barbara." mike said, "David, I've known her a lot longer than you, her name is Susan." That gal is still member of ABYC and ever since I have called her Barbara Susan.
So many memories of my cousin Michael I’m at a loss as to where to begin... Michael, although we didn’t see each other as much as I would have liked over the last 10-15 years you will always have special place in my heart. I know you’re somewhere right now with my dad (who loved you so much) having a few cold ones. Lauren, Patrick and Heather much love and my deepest condolences to you all. Love always the Byrne family (Joe, Shara, Anya and Euan)❤️❤️
Heather, Lauren and Patrick, you may not even remember me - I babysat for you many moons ago, and your family has always held a dear place in my heart. You just happened to cross my mind today, and I stumbled across this sad news of Michael's passing. Please accept my most sincere condolences. I wish you all the very best during this difficult time. Warm regards, Marilyn (Binnie) Fertile

Mike Gillett:The man who saved my life. I met Mike in grade school when the Gillett's moved to Toronto. When we were 12-13 yrs old he risked his own life to save me perched on a cliff edge above the Brickyard in the middle of winter 80-90 ft above a frozen sand pile. He tromped down without any hesitation and pulled me to safety. In later years as adults I often used to introduce Mike as the person who saved my life. His actions that day at Chorley Park speak to his character, intelligence and Bravery at a young age. If Mike was to retell this story he'd do a better job as he was also a formidable Raconteur! This is the Mike Gillett I will always remember.
I've never met Mr. Gillett, but I know Lauren. Lauren is an amazing human and her father must have taught her a lot. I pray for Lauren's recovery for this tough time and will be there to "lean in" if she needs it. I will stand for the Mourner's Kaddish on behalf of her and her family. 🙏
Heather, Lauren, and Patrick, I am so sorry to hear of Michael’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Thinking of you all. 💕
My heartfelt sympathies go out to Mike's family. I last saw Mike two weeks prior to his passing (I am shy about my words as he was a true "wordsmith" and would say this better) along with three members of our poker group. I once complained to Mike how the cards were not helping me win. He said to be patient, the cards would come. As I waited for the cards to come I realized I was paying for half his bar bill. He was a beautiful soul.
