Mike's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Michael Benjamin Epperson (Mike), who left this world far too soon at the age of 39. He passed away peacefully on September 13th, 2025.
Mike was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished son, a heroic uncle, a legendary brother, and a loyal friend to many. He is survived by so many, including his wife Shanna, his precious daughter Payton, his mother Gigi, his pops Sam, his grandpa Victor, his sister Katie, and his brother Tyler.
Born with a heart full of courage and a spirit of service, Mike dedicated over 16 years of service as a wildland firefighter rising to the position of Battalion Chief with the U.S. Forest Service. His work took him into some of the most challenging and dangerous conditions, yet he carried out his duty with unwavering strength. To his colleagues and fellow firefighters, he was not only a leader, but also a mentor and a brother.
As proud as he was of his career, Mike found his greatest joy in his family. He adored his wife, daughter, family and friendships. Nothing meant more to him than the time they shared together. His intelligence and larger than life presence filled every room, and his love for family and friends was evident in everything he did.
Beyond his roles and responsibilities, Mike was someone you could count on. He had a larger-than-life personality, a quick wit, and a generous heart. To his younger brother, he was not just family, but a best friend and lifelong role model. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor, where his ashes will be spread in the mountains he loved so deeply. There, among the wild beauty and peace of nature, his spirit will forever remain.
Though his time with us was far too short, Mike left behind a legacy of love, courage, and strength that will live on in his family, his friends, and all who were touched by his life.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Gone But Never Forgotten!
