Michael's obituary
In Loving Memory of Michael Drake Terry
June 7, 1951 – July 7, 2025
Mike Terry, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Middletown, Virginia, at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 7, 1951, in Kingsville, Texas, Michael brought joy, strength, and compassion to every life he touched.
The son of Billy D. Terry and Betsy Lacy Terry of Jacksonville, Texas, Mike carried the values of family, service, and perseverance throughout his life. A proud graduate of Abilene Christian University in 1973, he built a successful career as a Sales Vice President in the telecommunications industry, earning numerous awards for his leadership and dedication over more than 25 years. After his corporate career, he continued to thrive professionally as a Realtor, but it was his final role—as a Marshall at The Sly Fox Golf Club in Middletown—that he fondly called “the best job of his life,” because, as he often said, “they paid me in golf instead of money.”
Golf was his lifelong passion, second only to his love for his family. Mike was a dedicated and loving father to his five children: Courtney Loughry (husband Daniel) of Virginia, Nathan Terry of Texas, Lacy Lineweaver (husband Aaron) of Texas, Josh Terry of Texas, and Holly Morris (husband Jeremy) of Texas. He was the proud “Poppy” to eleven grandchildren—Alex, Joshua, Kaitlynn, Madison, Ella, Michael, Emory, Mack, Grant, Drew, and Lane—each of whom brought him tremendous pride and happiness. He was a constant presence at their games, events, and lives, cheering them on and investing in who they were becoming.
Mike is also survived by his loving sister, Robin Bridges (husband Fred) of North Carolina, and their children Avery, Stacy, Ryan, and Sara, as well as nine great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece who brought him continued joy and laughter.
In every community he called home, Mike was committed to service and his love for God and expressed that legacy through serving others. He was a former President of the Kiwanis Club in Jacksonville, Texas, and served as 1st Vice President of the Lions Club in Clarke County, Virginia. He had a heart for giving, a spirit for leading, and a life marked by generosity.
A memorial service to honor Mike’s remarkable life will be held on July 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Sly Fox Golf Clubhouse located at 65 Jackson Chase Dr, Middletown, VA 22645. For friends and family in Texas, a second memorial service will be held at a later date to ensure all who loved him have an opportunity to gather in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Clarke County Lions Club, P.O. Box 127, Berryville, VA 22611, or the Kiwanis of Jacksonville, 517 E Rusk St, Jacksonville, TX 75766 continuing his dedication to service and community.
Michael Drake Terry will be remembered for his warm heart, quick wit, unwavering love for his family, and the countless lives he enriched with kindness, laughter, and presence. His legacy lives on in the stories we tell, the love we carry, and the generations he inspired.
