Many fond memories of Mike with whom I attended school at St. Elizabeth elementary and Benedictine High here in Richmond and hours on Hotchkiss Field tennis courts in Highland Park during the smmers with other good friends,  Timmy Reardon (also deceased) and Mike Jeter.  We all had nicknames and I remember Mike known affectionaly as  "Senator".  Condolences to Mike's family.  B. My condolences to Shirley and family.
Kind, gentle. Always willing to stop and share his time, for a good joke or to help with a question or problem.
Always humble. He did not desire to be the focus of attention, working to support the woodshop on important tasks.
I will miss eye-to-eye banter and patience shared. I will miss a truly good man.

All the grandkids in Italy last summer! Such special memories

Shirley and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss! We enjoyed being your neighbors in Greensboro, NC. Mike certainly was a man of character as you have so lovely described him!

Praying you are met by Christ in the midst of your suffering and grief!

So sad to hear this news.  Although we didn't know Mike well I think we knew what kind of man he was the first time we met him and Shirley.  We had just moved to the villages and were still trying to adjust to this life style.  One night we decided to venture to the Lake Sumter Square and enjoy the festivities.  After we got there it was apparent that many, many others had the same idea....the place was packed.  Looking around for a place to sit or even stand it seemed hopeless and then we saw a hand waving at us, total strangers, indicating a couple of seats available next to them.  We made our way through the crowd and met our two hosts for the night....Mike and Shirley.  We bought them each a drink and they, in turn, thought that was the nicest jester ever....and acted like we did them a favor.  Looking back on that night I really think that's when we decided the villages is the place for us if people like this live here.  We got to know them a little better through the years and have always thought that they were two of the nicest people we have ever met.  God bless the two of them.
