Michael's obituary
**In Loving Memory of Michael Dean Comstock**
*March 10, 1966 December 22, 2024*
Michael Dean Comstock, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer. He was surrounded by love and cherished memories, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and excellence.
Born on March 10, 1966, in Kennewick, Washington, to William Jean Comstock and Sally Lewis Comstock, Michael spent most of his life in the Tri-Cities area. His childhood was rooted in Kennewick, with a brief period in Yakima, Washington. He attended Washington and East Gate Elementary Schools and Park Middle School. Despite facing challenges in his youth due to a misdiagnosis of severe allergies, Michael’s resilience prevailed. After receiving a correct diagnosis, he experienced a remarkable growth spurt before high school and entered Kennewick High School as one of the tallest students in his class.
It was at Kennewick High School that Michael met Jodi Campbell in a Washington History class. Their connection deepened six years later at a college dance, sparking a whirlwind romance that led to an engagement after just two weeks of dating. The couple married in September 1986 and built a life together filled with love and shared adventures.
Michael excelled academically and graduated in the top 15 of his high school class. His hard work earned him a prestigious scholarship with the Washington Public Power Supply Systems (WPPSS). He pursued higher education at Columbia Basin College, where he earned a degree in Nuclear Power Engineering in 1986. This achievement marked the beginning of an illustrious career that would span decades and leave an indelible mark on the nuclear power industry.
Michael began his professional journey at the Columbia Generating Plant in Richland, Washington, where he obtained his reactor operator’s license and specialized in refueling outage planning. His expertise and leadership led him to roles as director and consultant for ACA, Inc., taking him to worksites across the United States and even to special assignments in Japan. In 2013, Michael founded Zintel Canyon Consulting, where his innovative safety maintenance programs became benchmarks for the U.S. nuclear industry through EPRI guidelines.
While Michael’s career was filled with notable achievements, his greatest joy was his family. He and Jodi raised two daughters—Cassandra (born in 1987) and Alexis (born in 1991)—in Richland and later Kennewick. Michael cherished time spent outdoors hunting in the Blue Mountains or fishing on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering work ethic left an enduring impact on all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jodi; his daughters Cassandra and Alexis; his half-brother Lawrence Rouse ; as well as extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will forever remember him as a devoted family man, trailblazer in his field, and friend to all.
