Mike's obituary
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Michael Don "Mike" Clifton, on October 15, 2024. Born on February 19, 1951, Mike lived a full, albeit quiet, life defined by deep thought and a passion for reading.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dick Clifton and Tina Young, his step-father, Lance Young, and his sister, Kathy Clauch. He leaves behind a loving family: his wife, Sharlotte Clifton, his daughters, Angela Lynd and Sheila Edwards, and his sons, Brian Clifton, Monte Tinker, Brad Brice, and Cory Brice as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Known for his contemplative demeanor, Mike was a lover of the written word. He spent countless hours immersed in the realms of literature, with works by Henry David Thoreau holding a special place in his heart. As an avid reader, he found solace, inspiration, and the greatest joys of life in every book he laid hands on. His favorite local haven was the library, where he spent countless peaceful hours, often reading two books a day.
Mike was a man of many talents that included driving for Haliburton, being a butcher in Clifton’s Grocery, running a Skelly gas station and later his own mechanic business, Clifton Automotive, and spending time working on the ranch at Ash Creek. Beyond his love for literature, Mike was also a gifted horseman. One of his proudest moments was winning the AQHA Amateur Cutting Horse World Show with his beloved horse, Sir Dan Dee Doc. This significant achievement was a testament to his dedication, skill, and the special bond he shared with his equine companions.
Living his life with quiet intensity, Mike embodied a code of responsibility that he passionately imparted to his loved ones. His mantra, "Take responsibility for your actions," is a lesson his family will continue to cherish and put into practice, a living legacy of a man of profound wisdom and integrity.
Michael "Mike" Clifton's passing is a deep loss to those who have had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His subtle humor, quiet wisdom, and steadfast love for his family and passions will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Because he loved the outdoors, the family requests that those wishing to honor him contact the Arbor Foundation and plant a tree in his memory.
