I became the southern Oregon boy scout lodge chief in 2011 because nobody else volunteered. I did not feel qualified at all.
Mike was my advisor for the first half of the year and he saw me for who I was: a scared kid. He did his best to meet me where I was and guide me towards becoming the person he knew I could be.
He never laid out unrealistic expectations or put undue pressure on me. It was only later in the year that I learned he was involved at the national level. Even then, he never intimidated me or made me feel inferior compared to the other youth he worked with. I have memories of him smiling and laughing a lot.
He's helped so many people reach their potential. I feel blessed that he helped me, too. He will be missed.

You were gracious in life and love. So loved by your family and friends, love you return returned ten fold. So generous and caring. You are missed by those that know and love you. We are blessed to have you in our lives. I will always appreciate the love and compassion you share with your family and friends. Rest in peace my brother.

Uncle Mike was such a great guy. Always greeting everyone with a smile. Anytime I saw him he would ask me “how are ya kiddo?! With so much enthusiasm. It would always put a smile on my face anytime he asked. He will be greatly missed.
