As I paid my respects once again to a friend who passed much too soon, I was reminded of the wonderful memories we shared! And, to a man who made such a profound impression and impact on my life, it was an HONOR TO know I apparently made one on yours as well! When Doc’s family approached me and asked if I was the “Reprobate” that Doc had talked about, words can not express my feelings! You were my mentor, advisor and above all else, my FRIEND!!! Thank you, Doc!!!
For EVERYTHING!!!

I remember going to class one day completely stressed out. My husband had gotten called into work and I had to bring my new baby to class with me. I had planned on just telling Doc my plight and getting the info I would need for the next class, but instead, he told me stay. When my now 19 year old started to cry, he picked him up and held him until the end of class. He was a great man.

Our prayers are with yall.

Mike was raised in our First United Methodist Church as were his brothers. His family was to be admired...strong family unit and devout Christians. It's hard to believe he is now gone. Jim and I send our sincerest sympathy to Peggy and all Mike's family.

Doc and Peggy drove to Kansas City to my medical school graduation!
Mike and I were first cousins; his mom, Edna, and my dad, Harold, were siblings. In our younger years, we spent quite a bit time together. As a kid, I always enjoyed going to the Atkinson homestead.  Mike was the best man in my wife, Shelly’s, and my wedding; he presented us with a Bible for our wedding gift. I still cherish this gift.  Our sincerest condolences to Peggy and their children. We are so sorry for your loss. Cherish all of the fond memories you have of Mike. He was a man with a kind heart and gentle spirit. He will be missed!

Our condolences to Peggy and the entire family. The Lord strengthen, comfort and give you peace. Our prayers are with you.

Having known Mike for the past 8 years, Mike wasn't just a friend, a neighbor, a church member or a colleague but family. We will dearly miss you, but we know that you are in a better place with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mike, may your soul rest in perfect peace and rise in eternal glory.

In 1990, I stepped into Dr. Atkinson's 8am Biology class as a scared Freshman at OCC "OCU."  I will never forget him starting his class with prayer and his faith instilled peace to my heart.  He was a talented teacher, an expert in his field, and a kindhearted soul.  His dedication to his family and our OCU community will not be forgotten.
Best neighbor anyone could as…
Best neighbor anyone could ask for. Though we're sad for Mike's passing, we find comfort in knowing he's no longer in pain and is with our great Lord. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Atkinson family during this tough time. Rest in peace, dear neighbor. You'll always be in our hearts. Till we meet again...

So sorry to hear about the passing of Dr Atkinson. He would always tease me about being a Steelers Fan and one day replaced my kids picture with what appeared to be an autographed picture of Tom Brady! Another time, he placed a newspaper on my desk and circled an article in red of the chiefs beating  my Steelers. We had a lot of fun and I’m so glad God crossed our paths. Prayers for the family.

What a wonderful legacy.  Condolences to the family.
I have sweet memories of laughing and watching basketball games with ‘Mikey’ ( as I knew him,)  He was always so nice, a good guy. My prayers and condolences to the family.
My deepest condolences to you, Peggy and the family.  I'm so sorry for the loss of Mike, yet I am so glad he's in heaven now, praying for all of us!! We were good friends since 1st grade and often joked about that!  Our families intersected often as we were growing up in the same small town. He loved all of you dearly, as well as his brothers and parents.  Praying for peace as you enjoy the sweet memories you all had together.
