Michael's obituary
Michael “Mike” Arnett II, born on January 25, 1971, passed away on May 8, 2023. Mike was a man of infectious wit, boundless humor, love, and compassion; a truly one-of-a-kind individual who loved his family with his whole heart, was a true and loyal friend, and enriched the lives of those around him.
Mike is survived by his loving family; daughter, Rachel Arnett, son Ryan (Riley) Arnett, grandchildren; Kennedy and Jude Arnett (he was known to them as Pappo), sister, Lara Arnett, father, Michael (Carol) Arnett I, former spouse, Ashley Kirts-Arnett, step-children, Olivia and James Bischoff, and his dog, Simi. Mike was grateful for his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins he leaves behind with whom he cherished the memories of growing up with, and for those strong family ties which grounded him throughout his life. Preceding him in death were his beloved mother, Nancy Gillett, and his nephew, Zachary Brown. Their memories remained a significant part of Mike’s life.
Mike was known for his vibrant and colorful personality. He had an uncanny ability to read people, and along with his common sense, he was known to give good advice which was straight to the point and often humorously delivered; such as, “suck it up, buttercup,” a testament to his endearing humor and his belief in resilience. His compassion for humanity was demonstrated by his willingness to help anyone in need, and was known to give the shirt off his back to a stranger, or open his home to a friend, day or night. His natural intelligence allowed him to be very resourceful and he was always determined to find a solution to any problem, even if unconventional, which greatly contributed to his success in his work life as a project manager in the construction and swimming pool industries.
His leisure pursuits were as simple and authentic as he was. Spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Simi, and going for bike rides were activities that brought him immense joy. He was a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts and a life-long fan of the Indy 500. He also enjoyed engaging in competitive games, always relishing in those he couldn't lose at.
Mike cherished the simple pleasures of life. His favorite foods were tomatoes, BLTs and homemade chocolate chip cookies, complimented by his drink of choice - an ice-cold Coca Cola. He was a lover of music and an avid movie buff and would often sing or whistle his favorite songs at random times, whether in private or in public, and quoted lines from favorite movies with regularity. It is a tie as to whether he loved music or movies more.
Mike’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be dearly missed, and his legacy will live on through the valued life lessons he imparted and the love he shared. We remember Mike not with a heavy heart, but with a smile, recalling the happy moments we were fortunate enough to share with him during his time here with us.
