Michael's obituary

It is with deep heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Burke DVM,  a beloved son, brother, uncle, husband, and step-father. Michael was born on January 23, 1959, and departed from this world on December 18, 2024, leaving behind a life full of cherished memories.

Michael was predeceased by his loving parents, John and Nancy Burke, and his beloved nephew, Keith MacCollom. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Burke, to whom he was a constant support and source of happiness. Michael's memory will also be kept alive by his sisters Elaine MacCollom, Debi Emmons and Pamela Emmons, his brother Patrick Burke and his many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who will forever remember the love and care he showed them.

Michael also leaves behind his step-sons, Hunter Cagle, Trevor Cagle, and Luke Raulerson and his grandchildren Xanthe,  Madeline, Colton, Isom and Soren, whom he loved as his own and guided with great affection and wisdom. His loss will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Mike fought a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer with his loving wife Lisa always at his side. 

Mike grew up in the Cross Bayou area and had a group of loyal friends who still go by the term “Bayou Boys.”  He loved playing baseball at Cross Bayou Little League, being outdoors and was an accomplished Eagle Scout. He served in the Navy on the USS Guam attack Helicopter Carrier, Graduated from USF, then the University Of Florida Veterinarian school. Mike had an amazing Veterinarian practice that is still going strong in Ormond Beach and he loved treating all of those thousands of dogs and cats over the years, even if some literally left their mark on him. 

Mike was a passionate fan of the Florida Gators and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was even at the Buccaneers Stadium when they won their first home game! His love for the outdoors was evident in his favorite pastimes which included hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, hiking, and golfing. He was also a dedicated family man who loved nothing more than spending time with his loved ones.

Michael had a deep love for animals and actively supported causes devoted to their welfare. He had a  compassion for all living beings was a testament to his kind and gentle soul.

We remember Michael not only for his quick wit and infectious laughter but also for his unwavering kindness and generosity. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in each life he touched. We request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to K9 for  Warriors.
