Michael Dean Althaus
July 15, 1973 – September 19, 2025

Michael Dean Althaus, 52, of Florida, formerly of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on September 19, 2025.

Born on July 15, 1973, in Durham, Michael was a proud North Carolinian and a lifelong fan of the Duke Blue Devils. He was known for his quick wit, unshakable confidence, and a streak of stubbornness that those who loved him wouldn’t have had any other way.  His sense of humor and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Kaitlyn Althaus; his sister, Susan Althaus Sparks; and his mother, Brenda Cates Althaus. He also leaves behind his cousins TJ, Tim, and Michelle Althaus, along with many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

Michael's legacy lives on in the memories he created and the laughter he shared. He will be remembered for being unapologetically himself — a die-hard Duke fan, and someone who could always bring a smile to your face.

In lieu of flowers,  the family suggests donations be made in his name to Best Friends Animal Society.
