Gale was such a force both as a person and as an artist. She was truly fearless and had the most infectious laugh that I can still hear to this day. One of my favorite memories of Gale was when she first came to NYC and was the contractor for a nightclub called Nells which was on the block I lived. I had not seen her in many many years and I noticed this women up high in a huge dumpster. I thought to myself wow that looks so much like Gale McCall but couldn't imagine her in the dumpster...I took a second look and sure enough it was the formidable Gale Mcall...she was everywhere on that job and such a talented carpenter. I introduced her to my then boyfriend Peter Codella - a metal sculptor and they became very good friends and did many installations and projects in metal all over the city. A couple years later Gale and I took a trip to Taxco,Mexico together and we worked together on jewelry designs as I had a jewelry company. Not only a gifted artist but a wonderful collaborator and friend. I miss her already and send my love to her family. I hope there will be some kind of exhibition for her work as it it truly inspired and beautiful.

On the first visit to her studio - my jaw dropped. I flipped over the littlest things in that place. Everything was so intentional and original. We had friends in common; she taught the Making & Meaning class at SCI-Arc. I became a fan; her personality played out in the objects she created. I visited her installation in the Sacramento airport. Gale donated the concrete bench to a school garden project I worked on in Del Rey. She really wanted the kids to be able to play on it. I'm so grateful to have known her, and really enjoy hearing about others' comments, especially people that knew her before she became ill, which is around the time that we became friends.

If you can cut and paste this, here's a 2011 video of Gale on Vimeo, great to see her from a different time:

I adore Gale as we both worked in metal, and she had a studio a few doors down. Known her for decades. I had not seen her in a while, partly because I was fighting terminal stage 4 melanoma. Every day is a gift, but it's really living that makes it so, and no-one knew that better than Gale. She's an inspiration and will not be forgotten.

Hi-- We met in Avenir Memory Clinic early this year.when I visited my husband there. We recognized each other as 'artists'!
You spelled out Atrixia ( I've gotten that wrong here) and we smiled.... so sorry you're gone. Love, L

She was such a light. We have just moved and this week I got out a few of her pieces she gave me for wedding presents and put them on my book shelf and was thinking of her. Her fearlessness in trying new things and going on adventures I will hold in my heart forever.

I was so sorry to hear about GALE's passing. She was such a wonderful and bigger than life amazing woman. I will cherish our memories of doing raku together ❣️she also taught me welding. We had wonderful moments and conversations, let’s not forget the food… together. Life saver during the pandemic.

She was a teacher, I know how to do Raku because of her. She brought us together during the Pandemic with a purpose and a activity that I will cherish the rest of my life
