Merlin Lee Smith passed away on July 6, 2024 at the age of 90. He is survived by his son, Faren, his grandson, Hunter, and his sister, Gloria. A celebration of life will be held in honor of Merlin on Saturday, July 20th, 3pm at Linwood Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 6525 N Monroe St, Spokane, WA 99208. Born in Juneau, Alaska on September 12, 1933, Merlin spent most of his life in Walla Walla, WA, Sandpoint, ID, and Spokane, WA. After serving his country as a veteran of the Korean War, where he also published articles and poems under the pseudonym Forrest Wolfe, Merlin earned a living through architecture, design, and building. His architectural prowess brought many churches about. A skilled artist, he created many portraits of his family, friends, animals and picturesque landscapes. He also produced beautiful wood carvings and ornate furniture. Merlin was not only an artist but also a wonderful storyteller. His anecdotes, infused with humor and quick wit, endeared him to many friends who cherished his company.Â
