Mercedes's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mercedes Cox, on February 22nd, 2024. Born on March 16, 2000, Mercedes was a well-loved figure whose memory brings a smile to all who had the privilege to know her.
Mercedes is survived by her brother Brandon Barton, sisters Whitney Brueggert and Holly Barton, mother Pamela Barton, and father Timothy Cox. She was also a loving aunt to her nephews Jax B, Austin A, Brody B, and Kanon B, as well as her nieces Bella B and Kenzli B. She was predeceased by her grandmother Nancy Brown, grandfather Mark Brown, and uncles Leland and Neil Brown.
Mercedes lived a life full of movement and change. She moved to Clinton, OK in 2011, before settling in Norman, OK in 2016. Her resilience shone through at an early age, undergoing her first heart surgery at just five months old. This bravery continued throughout her life, with her second heart surgery taking place when she was 12 years old.
She graduated from middle school in 2014, demonstrating her diligence and determination. Her love for life was evident in her enjoyment of simple pleasures like watching a movie with her family. Mercedes had an undeniable zest for living fully and was known for her love of food, particularly chicken, bagel bites, shrimp, steak, and baked potatoes, paired flawlessly with a refreshing Coke.
Mercedes had a deep love for music, with favorites including "Welcome to My House" by Nu Breed Ft. Jesse Howard. Her passion for the Twilight Series was well known, as was her love for socializing and making new friends. More than anything, Mercedes cared deeply about the happiness of her family and friends.
Her personality was beautifully multifaceted: kind, sweet, loving, caring, loyal, playful, silly, determined, and strong. Mercedes never backed down from a challenge and always fought to accomplish her goals.
Her greatest lesson to us all was to love unconditionally, have patience, and to always forgive. Her legacy, a legacy of love, kindness, and happiness, will continue to inspire all who knew her.
