We are mournful to announce the demise of
Melvin Simmons on April 10, 2025.
He lived for 91 years and left out some wonderful memories
that touched the hearts of his family.
A brave soul who graced our lives with compassion and benevolence,
Mel’s presence will surely be missed. Mel
may have passed on, but his spirit lives on in our hearts.
Mel proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. Following his military service, he built a long and steady career with the Schmidt Baking Company of Baltimore, Maryland, where he worked until his retirement in 1998. Never one to remain idle for long, he later took on a second career in security at Union Switch & Signal in Balesburg, South Carolina, where he remained until retiring once more in 2012.
A man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, Mel especially loved spending time outdoors. Whether enjoying nature or sharing moments with those around him, he embraced life with quiet strength and enduring presence.
Mel is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Lillian (Reinhall) Simmons. Together they raised a loving family that includes sons Brent (Barbara) Simmons of Windsor, PA; Patrick (Lisa) Simmons of Leesville, SC; Michael (Linda) Simmons of Glen Burnie, MD; and daughter Kelly (Wayne) Parsley of Millersville, MD. He was preceded in death by two sons: Richard Lee Simmons in 1996 and Dale Shannon Simmons in 2010.
He leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his 29 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
As we bid thee goodbye to Melvin Simmons,
please join the memorial service that celebrates every aspect of Mel’s
life on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at 168 McNeery Ferry Rd., Leesville, SC.
