Melody's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melody Darlene Tainter (Romich). She crossed over peacefully on May 20, 2023 surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren. Melody was born on February 24, 1947 in Binghamton, NY. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was affectionately known as Mema by everyone close to her. Her life was marked by her witty spirit, her caring nature, and her unwavering devotion to her family, friends and pets.

Melody was predeceased by her loving husband, John Tainter. She is survived by her daughters, Tammy Talcott and DeNette & husband Dion Layton, her adoring grandchildren, Shannon Sheppard, Nicholas Shepardson, Brittney Balderama, Tyler Shepardson, and Noah Adix, her six great grandchildren and her sweet dog Precious.

Melody's witty personality and kind heart quickly endeared her to everyone she met. She believed in not taking life too seriously and reminded those around her to always have fun and be silly. This lightheartedness remained a defining quality throughout her life as well as her passion for animals. She cared for many special dogs in her life and provided them a life fit for royalty.

Melody was a determined and skillful woman, having accomplished several career milestones. She completed cosmetology school and worked as a talented hairdresser as well as a dedicated Certified Nurses Aid caring for the elderly. She surprised her whole family later in life by earning her CDL license to travel as a long-haul truck driving team with her husband John and dog JJ. For many years she loved being on the road and enjoyed having her grandchildren along for the ride during the summers.

Melody’s greatest joys in life were her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, pets and her coffee. All her grandchildren eagerly learned how to make her the perfect cup. She was the best representation of a fun, loving grandmother, and the adoration she showed was truly felt and reciprocated.

As we say our final goodbyes to Melody/Mema, her unconditional love for her family and her pets will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but the memories of her funny, loving, and caring nature will remain with us forever. May her memory serve as a reminder to live our lives with joy, unwavering love for our families, and a kind spirit towards all living beings.

We will hold you in our hearts …until we hold you again in Heaven.
