It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Melissa Freitas, born on July 15, 1969, who left us on June 14, 2023. She will be deeply missed by her gracious parents, Agnes and Joseph, her treasured daughters, Emily and Sarah, and her loving partner, Mike. Her two sisters, Jennifer and Gina, nephews, Connor and Dylan, and niece, Juliana, also shared their phenomenal support and care towards Melissa. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Robert, whom she held a close bond with.

Growing up in San Carlos, San Diego she made many friendships that she still holds today. She is remembered for her exceptional softball skills, witty personality, hard-working attitude and contagious smile that made her stand out in her hometown. 

After graduating from Cathedral Catholic High School (UNI) in 1987, Melissa earned a certificate in cosmetology from California Hair Design Academy in 1988. Later, she decided to follow her life's passion of working in healthcare and went back to school to become an LVN, all while raising her two young daughters.

As a two-time recipient of the Nurse of the Year award at Alpine Special Treatment Center, Melissa's dedication to her patients and the healthcare field was unwavering. The life lessons she shared, such as putting her entire heart into everything she did, will continue to inspire those who knew her.

She also became a strong advocate for pancreatic cancer causes, committed to making a difference in the lives of those affected by the disease as she has been.

Melissa's warm presence and her vibrant spirit will forever be remembered by her family and friends. As we say goodbye to Melissa, we invite all who knew and loved her to join in celebrating the remarkable life she led and the cherished memories she leaves behind.
