Melissa's obituary

Melissa DiBattista, a beloved mother, grandmother, and community leader, sadly passed away on May 19, 2025, one day after celebrating her 63rd birthday. Born on May 18, 1962, Melissa lived a life characterized by love, resilience, and an unyielding spirit of helping others. She left an indelible mark on everyone she crossed paths with, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.

Melissa graduated from South Plainfield High School in 1980, leading her on a path of dedicated service to her community and especially to The Garwood EFG, where she fervently fundraised for her children's school. She was a beacon of light to those around her and a role model to many. She was famously known for her delectable cooking, her affection for coffee, and her favorite pastime of helping others and being with her family.

Melissa was a mother to her two loving daughters, Molly Mehalick and Emma Mehalick. She was also a proud grandmother to Bianca Kenna. Throughout her life, Melissa maintained a strong core of family values and taught her children and grandchildren to never give up no matter the circumstance and to treat everyone with the utmost love and care. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, raising nieces, nephews, and children of the community through childcare. She considered this as one of her greatest accomplishments.

Melissa's cherished memories will be kept alive by her family members, including her siblings Richard, Jody, and Mark, her father Richard, her sister-in-law Kate, and her niece and nephew, Maye and Rory. She was a ray of sunshine, warm, funny, loving, smart, and resilient. She was a strong, independent woman who left a legacy of helping those in need.

A Celebration of Life for Melissa will be held on May 31, 2025, at 4:00PM at the Watt Hotel Rahway, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. Everyone whose life was touched by Melissa is welcomed to join and honor her memory. Indeed, her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
