Mackenzie Leatherman
Good evening to all of you, my name is Mackenzie, and I am Melissa’s daughter. I want to welcome all of you and thank you for gathering here to celebrate my mother’s life. It is going to be extremely difficult for me to keep this short and to express the shared feelings of love and admiration we all have for this amazing woman.
She would be so pleased and honored to see that all of you could be here today, sharing in the grief and loss of a wonderful mother, friend, coworker, and family member. The people in her life were most important to her.
In addition to you all being here, I have received an enormous amount of condolences from all of those whose lives were impacted by my mother. Yours and their words have brought me great comfort in knowing my mom was loved by so many, and that she also loved me with all of her heart.
I think of the words generous, giving, kind, loving, and caring when picturing my mother and all the ways she touched so many.
I believe I could speak for... Read more hours on all the ways she has gave back to those she loved, and even those who were strangers. I know that she gave me a love that is irreplaceable and there isn’t a force on earth that can mend the void my heart is experiencing. Over the years she taught me many things, but most of all, how to love selflessly. This woman went without so that others could have.
She had dignity in preserving her independence in life. Even as she battled so fiercely with all of her health issues, she wanted to remain able to do and care for herself in anything she could. My mother fought so hard until her last breath and I just know that she has received gold on the other side. She passed peacefully as I held her hand at her bedside, and I don’t believe she would’ve had it any other way. Our bond was unshakable and I am so glad I got to be with her in her last moments as she ascended to meet our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
My mother is in heaven now, rejoicing and praising with the angels, and it is the hope that this world is not the end, but a new beginning for paradise that brings me peace. I am so proud to call myself her daughter, and I know that her memory will live on through all of us and she will remain in our hearts forever. Read less
