Melinda's obituary
Melinda Kay Wickliff, 60, of Newton, lowa, passed away December 6, 2023, after a short hospitalization.
Melinda was born March 8, 1963, to Danny and Kay (Prior) Doty in Des Moines, lowa. She graduated from Newton High School in 1981.
Her favorite activities included Camp Fire Girls, coaching Powderette softball, co-ed softball, bowling league, swimming, and numerous outdoor activities.
She enjoyed being in the kitchen and was well known for her pies and sweet treats, especially her fudge and Chex Mix. She loved flower and vegetable gardening and canned countless jars of salsa.
Her creative talents included crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Melinda created numerous decorative crafts such as pot head kids, metal flowers, and bird baths. She also designed and made her sons' Halloween costumes through the years. Her favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. With the help of her grandson, Xavier, her house and yard were always well decorated.
Family and friends were very important to Melinda. Her pride and joy were her 2 sons and 3 grandchildren.
Melinda is survived by her mother, Kay (Denny) Purtilo, Newton; father, Dan (Maureen) Doty, Newton; sons, Brandon (Amy) Wickliff, North Liberty; Cameron (Taryn) Wickliff, Newton; grandchildren, Xavier, Winston, and Quinn; stepsister, Theresa (Lance) Shafer, Newton; nephews Ben and Nick; and many more aunts, uncles, and relatives. Melinda will also be missed by her beloved canine companion, Thor; her lifelong friend, Shannon Dannen; and special friend, Rod Sutton.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents; stepfather, Dave Rowray, and several other family members.
A Celebration of Life Open House will take place at Murph and Mary's Pub, Legacy Plaza, Newton, on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 2pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Cameron or Brandon Wickliff to benefit the family.
