Mele-Asilika's obituary

Mele-Asilika Fonua, 80, of Gardena, CA, passed away on January 08, 2023 peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Mele-Asilika was born on May 28, 1942 to Ta'ani & Kalolaine Mahe of Pea, Tokomolo.  She was married to the love of her life Tonga Ponasi Afi Fonua from Leimatu'a, Vava'u for over 50 years. They migrated to the USA in the 70's and resided in Inglewood, California for majority of her life. When Mele-Asilika had her first child, she decided to dedicate her life to being the best Stay-at-Home Mom. Her children were her everything,  she honored the sacred and noble calling of a Mother. Mele-Asilika excelled at being a mother and grandmother and supporting everyone through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others and all her Charitable work. She loved everyone she came into contact with. Mele-Asilika was a God-Fearing woman and passionate about her faith, she surrendered her life to being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found sewing and quilting. We are heartbroken and will miss her greatly.

Mele-Asilika was predeceased by her father/mother, father-in-law/mother-in law Sione and Ha'avale and great grandson Angelo Skyy.  She is survived  by her loving husband Tonga Ponasi Afi Fonua and her 7 children; Linda-Longo, Peniueti-Temaleti, Sione-Eniketi, Ha'avale-Penisimani, Alisi-Ngalupepeloa-, Ofakisaione-Seileni, Afi-Muimui, over 30 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
