Melanie Sue (Long) Wood, 42, of Killeen, TX died unexpectedly on September 11, 2023 from medical complications during an unplanned hospital stay.   Her loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.

Melanie was born on March 21, 1981 to Monica Sue Crocker and Rich Thomas Long in St. Louis, MO. Melanie married her high school sweetheart Patrick Wood on July 12, 2004. Together they have 3 amazing children, Jordan (16), Jaxon (13) and Brooklynn (10).  Melanie held a Bachelors degree in Child and Family Development and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.  She was a dedicated teacher at Saegert Elementary, Killeen ISD.  Melanie was known for her kind soul and love of her family.  Melanie’s family and friends will miss her more than words can say.  She leaves behind many beloved family members to include her husband of 19 years Patrick Wood; children Jordan, Jaxon and Brooklynn; parents Monica and Ron Crocker; Rich and Lee Long; brother and sister-in-law Zac and Adriana Long, parents-in-law Alonzo & Susan Wood;  brother and sister-in-law Alisha and Anthony Smith.  Contributions in memory of Melanie can be made to Anca's Ark at ancasark.com. There will be a celebration of life held at 1:30 pm on September 16 at First Baptist Church of Killeen, 3310 S WS. Young Dr. Killeen.
