It is with profound sadness I announce the passing of Melanie “Mel” Curtis, my loving and devoted mom and best friend, age 60, on October 14th, 2020, due to complications of renal failure.

My mom’s priority was always as a dedicated mother first and foremost to me, her daughter Marcy. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved the holiday and end of summer family gatherings. She had a spirited personality and always made people around her laugh.

Despite her long term health conditions, mom was an extremely hard worker and worked various jobs throughout her life. She never complained, was always expressing how grateful she was for all that she had. She blessed so many of us with her loyalty, love, and commitment to being her friend and family.

Mom loved to love on people. She was honest to a fault and always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Mom shared her love for food and baked goods at holidays and all family gatherings. For many years she scrapbooked and gifted so many with her unique creations and talents.

My mom was the strongest woman I’ve ever met. She wasn’t afraid of anyone or anything. She was a fierce Mama Bear and was always there for me through the good and bad, never judged, always loved hard. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

She was the beloved mother of Marcella “Marcy” Curtis, wife of Jon Curtis, loving daughter of the late Sylvia Butera, dear sister of Lisa Miller, Barb Butera, and the late Aurelia Franciskovich, Cathy Butera, and Carol Dawson. Remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Due to the Coronavirus and for the safety of all family, friends, and funeral home staff, a celebration of Melanie’s life will be held at a later date. The date, time, and location will be posted and communicated when we can be united in person.
