Mei's obituary
Mei Sing Chow, a beloved mother and successful pharmacist, died on May 19th, 2024 at the age of 65. Born on September 6th, 1958 and raised in Hong Kong, she immigrated at the age of 17 with her family to Brooklyn, New York and eventually Long Island, where she lived most of her life. Nine months into a courageous battle against cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile duct, Mei passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones.
In 1981, Mei graduated from St. John's University with a BS in Pharmacy, going on to lead a satisfying career. She practiced in multiple states, beginning with Michigan in 1982, then working in Washington, Georgia, and finally, back home in New York by 1991. She appreciated working in hospitals and felt humbled by the responsibility of administering critical medicines.
Mei had three sons, born 1987, 1993, and 1994, to whom she devoted herself wholly and tirelessly. She also adopted a puppy in 1999 and two kittens in 2013 and 2017.
In her leisure, Mei enjoyed baking, reading, exercising, hosting barbecues at her house, and listening to True Crime stories. She dreamed about volunteering at animal shelters and learning Italian cooking in Tuscany. She was excited about retirement, wishing she could continue traveling and seeing the world.
Mei is survived by her three sons, Gregory, Jonathan, and Nicholas; her two cats, Romeo and Carla; her sisters Yuet-sing and Ming-sing; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In loving memory of our beloved Mom, whose life was woven with threads of courage, compassion, and strength and colored by the memories and adversities that shaped her into the resilient and beautiful person she was. She will always be a shining star to all the lives she touched throughout her life.
Her life story, from the challenges of immigrating to a foreign country at a young age to the triumphs of building a fulfilling life for herself and her 3 boys all on her own, is a testament to the extraordinary spirit that resided within her. She showed us the value of determination, the bravery of embracing new beginnings, and the importance of kindness. Mom was an amazing human being and the lessons we learned from her will continue to guide us throughout our lives.
Mom's legacy is steeped in love and her extraordinary ability to uplift everyone around her. Mom was the backbone of our family, the guiding light that always illuminated our paths through life's darkest moments. She was always there to pick us up when we were down and to guide us back to course with a firm but gentle hand, teaching us the power of unconditional love along the way. She was always looking out for those around her, and dedicated her life to supporting us and ensuring our well-being and success. We wouldn’t be who we are today without her.
Her commitment to her health and fitness was an inspiring example of her dedication to self-care and personal growth. Setting records at her gym, including the longest plank, she showed us that strength isn't just measured in muscle but in the determination to face our fears and push beyond our limits.
Mom often showed her love and care by baking for her loved ones, both at work and at home. Her creations were thoughtful expressions of love and care that brought closeness and warmth to everyone who enjoyed them. Mom brought our family together through her love for food and we’ll always cherish all the memories we made at the family gatherings and summer barbecues she hosted at home.
Mom’s beautiful smile and welcoming embrace always made us feel like we were home, no matter where we were. In her, we will always find a source of strength and love. Though she may have left this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved, and her legacy as a devoted mother will endure for generations to come.
We take solace in knowing that Mei passed away surrounded by the people she loved. Mei will forever be remembered for her strength, her kindness, and the love she shared with everyone who had the privilege of crossing her path. In honor of Mei's lifelong dedication to caring for others and her unbreakable spirit, a memorial service will be held at Central Funeral Home (16214 Sanford Ave, Flushing, NY 11358) on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 2:00 - 4:30 PM.
