Mehrdad's obituary
With deep sorrow and love, we announce the passing of Dr. Mehrdad Khanmohammadi, beloved husband, father, mentor, and environmentalist, who left us after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Zanjan, Iran, Mehrdad devoted his life to science, nature, and the people around him. He earned his PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Queensland in Australia, and went on to serve as a Lecturer and later Assistant Professor at University of Guilan, where he educated and mentored countless undergraduate and graduate students.
He was a respected researcher, publishing over 20 scientific articles focused on environmental vulnerability, land use change, and ecological protection. But his greatest legacy is not only in what he taught, it is in how he lived.
Mehrdad was a light to all who knew him. He brought laughter, kindness, and strength wherever he went. Even during his illness, he continued to uplift those around him, never losing his warm sense of humor. His students described him not only as a teacher but as a father figure and life guide. His colleagues called him a brother.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nasrin, and his two children, Saba and Samin, who carry forward his spirit, curiosity, and compassion. To his family, he was a constant source of love and protection, always saying: “As long as I’m by your side, you’ll never have to worry about anything.”
Mehrdad’s presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on, in the people he inspired, the lives he touched, and the earth he loved so deeply.
