Meg's obituary

Meg Dougher was arguably the most creative, loving, and enthusiastic person most of us will ever know.  While she died December 1, 2022 at the age of 80, she will live on in our hearts, in the songs of wild birds everywhere, in the blooms of the most extraordinary flower gardens, in the peaceful quiet of the woods & the breathtaking majesty of the mountains. She was born in the Bronx, NY to the wonderful Marge & Tom Pritchard, and was soon after joined by her little sister, Jo Ann.  Meg & Jo were very close & spent their childhoods happily in NY, then in Dayton, Ohio.   Later, Meg fell in love with literature & her husband, Rich, at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.   Loved by many, from the students at Wyckoff NJ's Coolidge School where she worked in the library for many years to the dogs she adored as her true companions throughout her life, she will be most missed by her surviving family.  Meg's daughter, Beth, is so grateful to be who she is today because of the infinite love, support, thoughtfulness and outright exuberance that Meg raised her on.  Her son-in-law, Steve, may have joined the family in his twenties, but he was also granted all the warmth and love that Meg would have given a child of her own.  Of course it didn't stop there!  Grandchildren Alex & Maggie were the light of Meg's life, and she shared with them countless rich and fabulous adventures of all kinds!  Throughout the years Jo & Meg continued to enjoy their warm and deep sisterhood, and Meg's embrace extended enthusiastically to Jo's husband Bill & children, Bill & Tom.  Rich's good-spirited brother, Gary, was dear to Meg's  heart, as was his son, Jason.  But no discourse about Meg's family would be complete without mention of her best friend of 54 years, Barbara Weaver - how Broadway, Lincoln Center, or the halls of Coolidge School managed to remain serious venues despite Meg & Barb's hilarious antics, none of us can fathom.

While Meg often said that this life is beautiful enough, especially alongside the wild creatures with whom we share it, we hope that she is now reunited with Rich, her husband of 53 years, and that they are now hiking the trails of Heaven with their beloved dogs, Juno, Shadow, Caper & Smoky.   It will be our challenge to celebrate Halloween, Derby Day,  Christmas, or really any given Saturday evening with a fraction of the joy that Meg brought to every occasion with her imaginative & legendary hostessing.  But we will find our way, as Meg taught us to, especially by turning to the beauty & wisdom of literature & music.  Meg had the remarkable ability to gleen as much from her beloved Shakespearian plays as she did from the children's books she shared with her students, and to light up with joy at the sound of Schubert, the Eagles, ABBA, or Wynton Marsalis alike.  Indeed, few of us will be able to walk the streets of Wyckoff or the hiking & ski trails of Vermont without singing a song in our hearts as we remember our Meg.
