Meda's obituary
Meda Norman, 97, of Vista, CA, passed away on May 10, 2023.
Meda was born on September 13, 1925 to Harry and Christina Anderson in the town of Topeka, Kansas. The youngest of 4 children, having 3 older brothers. The Great Depression, which started in 1929, caused her parents to look for better opportunities in a suffering economy, so when Meda was a girl, the family made the long journey to start a new life in Southern California. Later on as a teenager she took a confirmation class at the local Lutheran church, and there she met Melvin (Bill) Norman who became her beloved husband of 66 years. The young couple began courting not long after they met. Bill met Meda when she was just 14. Right off the bat they faced difficult challenges because of World War II. Being separated was difficult. Bill served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Force. When Meda graduated, at 18, they were married when Bill was home on leave for a long weekend. He then returned to the European Conflict. God's mercy brought Bill home in 1943 after he was badly injured. His plane was damaged by shrapnel and was not able to make it back to the base in Italy. Near Pascara, Italy off the coast he had to ditch the B-24 bomber in the ocean. As Bill began a journey of recovery, the newlyweds moved into their first home and began their life together. They were blessed with 10 precious children who all grew up and had their own families. When Meda had her first child, Bill, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and eventually grandmother and great grandmother. Meda excelled at nurturing, valuing and noticing life whether great or small. When Meda wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found tending to her plants and flowers. Prayer was an important part of her life. She knew God as her Savior and friend; she said God was her all. It was easy to fall in love with her because she had a very special way of showing God's gentleness and unconditional love. We will miss her greatly.
Meda was predeceased by her husband Bill, and 3 children Barbara, Merlene and Steve. She is survived by her children Bill, Linda, Janette, Penny, Bonnie, Tim and April, and their families.
