When Max was born, I was totally awestruck and delighted! My first grandchild. His little round head was so beautiful. I got to babysit, and we both loved going to the park.

As he grew, we had many adventures together. Max and Alex loved playing at our house because there was a swimming pool. This was before they had one at their house. One time when they were over and swimming, I accidentally locked myself in the powder room. The door lock was jammed. The boys were too little to be alarmed. They thought it was funny! Bill tried everything to get the door open without damaging anything, all to no avail. He ended up calling the fire department. They came right over and used a big crowbar to break the door open. The boys loved having the fire department show up. And they were glad when it was all over so they could go back in the pool!

We had lots of fun in those days. There were bike rides on the trail behind our house, summer carnivals in town, and ice cream cones at Dairy Queen.

There was a certain sweetness about Max from when he was little all the way to adulthood. It never left him. I’m so grateful to Randy and Jeanne for being the wonderful parents they were to Max; they showered him with love and understanding throughout his life.

It is difficult for me to grasp that he is gone. I love him and I miss him.
