So very sorry to learn of her passing. I always enjoyed talking with her and Jimmy at Uncle Wayne's annual Hare Ball. The most recent conversation was at David Hare's wake and she was as vibrant and lovely as ever. I know she is rejoicing in heaven with her beloved family.
The last thing I was told was that she was recovering ok... so I came up to Tuscaloosa and said I would see her next month. I wish I hadn't been in such a rush.Aunt Maxine was the picture of kindness, of hospitality and compassion. She once made a coconut pie for me just because I was coming down to Mobile to visit.I could share about how sad I am that she's gone, but my sorrow is nothing compared to Uncle Jimmy's. I've never known a world where they weren't married, wholly and hopelessly devoted to each other, where they were not sitting in their chairs in the living room holding hands.THAT has to be my memory of them. That she was the sweetest Gram ever, and that they were the model of a married couple.
