found a sketch that Mr.  Ashburn drew on a place mat at a restaurant dated10-15-01. He had drawn it for me and I really loved it

Not sure it's the same Mr. Max Ashburn but I was wondering, if it were, would you want to have it as a souvenir

It is of a farmer exiting a barn in a horse driven wagon pulling a load of hay

I kept it all these years.  Very good sketch

I have just read up on the incidences on the Elan School and I am truly enlightened. Mr. Ashburn is a beautiful example of the good we need in this world; he was incredible and brightened up so, so many lives. He is truly an inspiration.

Thank you so, so much. My deepest condolences to all his loved ones.

Just found out that "officer smiley" had passed while researching the Elan school.A truly incredible man who would stick his neck out to do what he knows is right rather than what he's told is right. I'm saddened that the boy he helped never got back in contact with him but I'm sure he's thankful for what Mr. Ashburn did for him every day.

I'm hoping he made it home and is living a very happy life but even if not I'm sure they'll meet in heaven and have a lovely re-union.

My condolences to the family. I might not have known Mr. Ashburn but hearing stories like his always helps to restore my faith in humanity.

My dear friend Max and I enjoyed our travels up and down the coast of Maine. Twice in the past four years we took road trips to Florida and enjoyed exploring the different aspects of the states we traveled through. We spent several days in North Carolina visiting with Max’s family and our friends.
Michelle, Daniel, Max and Adam our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Everyone knows how much Max loved kids.....even local reporters in Lewiston! The front page of the local paper September 12, 1973....

I worked for Max in Security at CMMC from 1985 until he left there. During that time I learned so much about self defense and use to sing with him at different school "Just Say No" programs. I will never forget the time he was teaching me how to break a board in half and I was a bit off the mark, hit his thumb and he wound up losing the thumb nail. He was a great boss and a great friend and I know that he is resting now in the arms of Jesus. Thanks for the memories Max.

Michelle, Daniel, Max and Adam so sorry for your loss. Your dad was an amazing person. A quiet man, but oh so kind and gentle. He loved children, you could see that in his eyes, and the children loved him. The family and community has lost a very special man. Uncle Max hope you and Aunt Annie are having coffee together. Love Pauline and family
