Mavis's obituary
Mavis Dorthy Campbell, 87, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on July 5, 2025, during the catastrophic flooding that overtook the area. Her passing was sudden and heartbreaking. She had just returned home from visiting her husband, Warren, who’d been in the hospital for several days. She was only there to rest for a few hours before heading back up to be with him. She never made it back.
Mavis and Warren were married for 67 years. Not a day went by that they didn’t talk, laugh, bicker like old sitcom characters, and tell each other “I love you.” Their love was quiet but constant. Built on coffee every morning, shared glances, inside jokes, and a hundred little routines only they understood.
They tried for children for many years, but it just wasn’t in the cards. So Warren, ever her biggest cheerleader, encouraged her to teach—and she did. For over 40 years, Mavis was the kind of elementary school teacher that kids remembered forever. She had a way of making every student feel seen, known, and safe.
She was fiercely smart, soft-spoken, and always had a twinkle of sarcasm in her eye. She wrote beautiful letters, made perfect deviled eggs, and somehow kept the same pair of gardening gloves for over 20 years. She didn’t want attention or grand things. She just wanted to love Warren, care for her community, and do some good with the time she had.
She succeeded in all of that, and so much more.
Mavis is survived by her husband Warren, who is now recovering from both the flood and the unimaginable loss of the love of his life.
Per her wishes, there will be no formal service—“no drama, no big to-do,” as she always said—but friends and neighbors will gather privately to remember her wit, her warmth, and the immeasurable impact she had on everyone lucky enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory can support Warren as he begins the difficult road to rebuilding.
