Maureen's obituary
Maureen Jacqueline Nelson, 53, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away suddenly on July 5th, 2025, in FitzGerald, Georgia. She was a devoted mother, caring and loyal sister, aunt, and friend. Above all Maureen’s greatest joy came from her role as “momo”. She loved her grandchildren and her time with them.
Maureen was born May 22, 1972, in Bronx, NY. Her parents, John Francis Nelson and Maureen Patricia Nelson, had five children, Joanie, John, Pattyann, Michael, and Maureen.
She is survived by her daughter Megan Mitchell and son Jesse Mitchell; her four grandchildren: Melia,12, Emma-Jade, 10, Aurora, 7, and Liam, 2; her siblings Joanie, Patty, and twin brother Michael; and several nieces and nephews.
Maureen is preceded in death by her parents John and Maureen Nelson; John Fitzpatrick; brother Johnny Nelson; niece Maureen Dedaj; cousins Denise Sibio and Anthony Sibio; uncle Richard Fitzpatrick.
A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post 268 (1690 Avenue HW, Rivera Beach, FL 33404) on Friday, July 25th from 3-6 PM Family and friends are invited to attend, share stories, reminisce and all are encouraged to wear polka-dots. Maureen was known for her colorful style and love of all polka dots.
A funeral mass will be held in The Bronx at her family’s parish later this summer. All information will be posted.
