Maura's obituary
Maura was born on January 15, 1945 in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines to Sixto Vergara and Christina Ordiales. Many didn’t know that she was an identical twin. Her twin sister, Segundina, passed away as a toddler.
Maura attended Santa Ana Elementary School and F.G Calderon High School. Her first job was at the first Shoe Mart Department Store in Quiapo but she also worked at the Philippine Racing Club. Maura attended Greg Business College where she took Stenography classes and Realistic Institute as she aspired to be a beautician wanting to cut hair and do manicures. Life led her down a different path.
She relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii until 1977, lived in Yokohama, Japan until 1980 then along with the family returned to the Philippines where they resided in Paranaque. While overseas she worked in the U.S. Navy Exchange, did secretarial work, and was an active participant in the Fil-Am Association in Yokohama, Japan. In 1997 she moved to California to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She has lived here ever since while returning to the Philippines frequently for vacations. While in California, Maura worked as a live-in caregiver for many home-bound patients and finally retired from this job just a few years ago.
Maura was loving, carefree, and incredibly generous towards her family and friends. She loved traveling and going on adventures with anyone who had the time. She spent her time in her car, on a plane, or enjoying her home in Lower Lake. She spoke fondly of the Philippines and looked forward to visiting every year.
Maura is preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, and her eldest brother Cecilio. She is survived by her husband Alan, her son Norman, daughter-in-law Aneth, daughter Melani, grandchildren Kevin, Jason, Erika, and Gabriel, her brother Felipe, and sisters Lourdes, Lydia and Maria (Nene).
Maura will be missed dearly by all she touched and her memories will live in our hearts forever.
