Maura Cleveland, beloved wife of Marion Brown, beloved sister of Nancy and Tom, lost her battle with leiomyosarcoma May 18, 2020.
Maura graduated from John Carroll University, with a masters from Depaul university. She worked for many years in the information technology industry, and in typical geeky fashion attended Comic Con every year. She had a tremendous capacity for compassion, from buying school supplies for kids in the neighborhood and Christmas presents for families in need to unreservedly serving those with substance abuse. She and her wife have devoted themselves to rescuing countless dogs and cats, caring for them as their own.
She grew up the Chicago area, and when the time came to make her own way chose to make the city her home. She always loved its restaurants, museums, and many neighborhood art shows and festivals.
Maura was a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on for those who needed it, and she was always ready to provide timely advice. She worked tirelessly to help others with their demons, without judgment or frustration. Even when she got sick, her smile and gracious appreciation never wavered, time and time again thanking those who tried, but could not fight this terrible disease. The world has lost a gentle soul.
