Mattie's obituary
Mrs. Mattie Pearl Taylor was born to the late Mary
and Alex Griffin on June 18, 1926, in Montgomery County,
Alabama. She was raised in the Wenonah (Tarpley City)
Community. She confessed Christ at an early age at Galilee
Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev.
Thomas Thornes. She was later led to Ebenezer Missionary
Baptist Church, where the late Rev. Thomas Thornes would
serve as the pastor. She sang with the Number One choir and
remained a member until her death.
Sister Taylor was educated in the Birmingham Public School
System. She attended Old Wenonah High School. She was
employed with Dr. Mallory Forbes Miree for over 30 years.
She was married to the late Sam Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Sylvester (Juke)
Griffin, Gilreath (Buck) Griffin, and Willie James (Pipe)
Cottrell; sister, Dolly Mae Hollins; nephew, William Griffin;
and niece, Gloria Griffin.
Sister Taylor leaves to cherish her memories: nieces, Carrie Lee
Scott and Donna Griffin, both of Montgomery, AL, Mary
Hollis, Juanica Cottrell, Cassandra Hollins, and Teretta
Jackson, all of Birmingham, AL, Charlene Lewis of Warner
Robins, GA, Deleta White of McDonough, GA, and Sharon
Ashurst of Las Vegas, NV; nephews, Charles Hollins (primary
caregiver) of Birmingham, AL, Victor Hollins of Tuscaloosa,
AL, and Gerain Hollins of Hilo, Hawaii; and a host of greatnieces, great-great nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nephews,
cousins, other relatives, and friends.
