Matthew's obituary

Matthew Watson Wright, Jr.(Matt)

Was born on Aug. 13, 1942 to Matthew Wright Sr. and Samantha Link Wright in Roswell, New Mexico, and entered heaven’s gates on September 19,2024.

After completing his military service, Matt’s dad returned their family to his home of Dallas where Matt remained until his death.

Matt loved anything that had an engine. He got his first car at age 13, a 1940 Ford Coupe that he pulled out of a vacant lot with a chain. His dad and he dragged it home and together, with much work, they overhauled it and got it running. Matt’s first Harley was a 1945 K 45 3 speed. He continued to own all models of Harley’s his entire life. In 1970, he acquired his pilot’s license, and in 1975 he built a blown fuel hydroplane boat that he raced for several years.

Matt graduated from Richardson High School in 1960 and began working in the automobile industry. In 1970, he opened Wright’s Paint and Body. He also owned and operated Unique Auto Sales. Due to illness, he retired from the body shop in 1999, but continued owning and operating Unique Auto Sales until his death.

In 1982 Matt married his wife, Kathy Wheeler Wright.

Matt was an expert, self taught watchmaker and spent countless hours building beautiful watches.

Matt loved life. He loved his friends, he loved riding his Harley’s, he loved to tease and cut up, he loved music, and he loved watching TV. But, his greatest love was his family. Nothing made him happier than having his family over for cookouts, holidays, going on trips with them, attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events, watching football with his family, and having special birthday celebrations with each of them.
Matt will be remembered most for his generous spirit, and the lessons and skills he taught to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Matt was preceded in death by his dad Matthew Watson Wright, Sr., his Stepmom, Helen Wright, his mom, Samantha McCord, his sister Linda Wilcox, brother in law Danny Wilcox, and nephew Doug Nash.

Matt is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kathy, sons Matthew Watson Wright III (Stacey),Mark Whitney Wright, daughter, Catherine Michelle Wright (Timmie), granddaughters Lindsey Anne Gaul (Josh), Jennifer Stanford, grandson Michael Tyler Gaul (Sylvia), great grandson Branden Matthew Perez, great granddaughter Mariah Michelle Arrevalo, sister in law, Jan Carter, nieces Nichole Danley (Ernie), Debbie Jones (Joe), Mary Catherine Nash, and nephew Bill Nash (Karen), in addition to many great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held 09/26/2024
