Matt's obituary
Tremain, Matthew Wayne (Matt) age 50, died suddenly on November 27th, 2023 after suffering complications from two surgical procedures. He was known by many names including son, brother, uncle, husband, dad, papa, friend, the Goat, and even Batman. Those who knew him loved his Cheshire cat smile, his big bear hugs, his willingness to lend an ear, and his abundant love for his family and friends.
Matt was a little bit of a “Jack of all trades” and worked several positions over the years. Some of them include serving as a Marine just after high school, popping popcorn at Topsy’s, carpet cleaning with a few of his best friends, several warehouse positions as a team lead, and most recently learning/honing his woodworking passion with a CNC machine making beautiful wood pieces. Matt was also an avid bowler starting from the age of 5 and continued into his adult years, winning many personal awards and team championships. He loved bowling with his dad and the bowling gang. Whether he was grumbling under his breath or celebrating victories afterward with the gang for dinner, he always enjoyed his bowling days no matter what the outcome. Matt was also known for his love of all things Chiefs, Royals, and Mizzou and rarely missed games or the chance to celebrate with friends. The Carlson Superbowl parties were always epic and another favorite for Matt. Go Chiefs!! He was extremely bummed if he couldn’t make it that year. Music has forever been Matt’s passion. Specifically, live music was his favorite. His best friend Craig Haning is a talented drummer, and they were able to make so many memories together as Matt would try his hardest to see him play whenever he could. Between live bands and the countless concerts, his love of music will never fade. Matt also had an irrational love affair with all things candy. Anything sour or gummy was his thing and there is still a drawer full sitting beside his recliner. Matt basically ate like a child with his diet consisting mostly of chicken strips, pizza, burgers, tacos and ketchup, ketchup, ketchup. God forbid you got anywhere close to him with peanut butter or Ranch dressing. He did love to cook and was a master on the grill. Those close to him always requested his signature chicken wings, steaks, or ribs. Matt had a huge heart for helping people and was able to put that to good use many times. A few included volunteering with the Hurricane Harvey mission trip through his church The Rock of KC, and a medical mission trip with his wife Michelle and daughter Brianna to La Palma in El Salvador.
Matt and his wife Michelle met on October 4th, 2011, for breakfast at Granny Shaffer’s and were married among a small group of friends and family on July 14th, 2013. Matt and Michelle just celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary this past July in Jamaica doing all the things they love: adventure, parties, water, sunrises and sunsets, and just being together. Over the last 12 years together, they have made many memories, weathered, and persevered through several personal storms, and were living out their dream by the water. They spent their time enjoying their love of boating, obsessing over the birds (especially the hummingbirds and bald eagles) and were content in the peaceful atmosphere at the Lake of The Ozarks in Edwards, MO. If anyone knew Matt, they would know that his family and the memories they made meant everything to him.
Loved ones that will forever remember and miss Matt until they meet again include his wife Michelle Tremain, his daughter Brianna, his daughter and future son-in-law Mikayla and Kyle, his granddaughters (the lights of his life) Mayleigh and Penny, his mother Linda Tremain, his sisters Wendi, Jamie, Tiffany, and Crystal, his brother Scott, several nieces and nephews, and of course his favorite fur babies Hemi, Piston, and his not so favorite but still loved, Bella. Matt was reunited with his father James (JT) Tremain in heaven who preceded him in death. Matt was a registered organ donor from the age of 31. The family takes much comfort knowing his wishes were honored and that even after death, Matt continues to be the giver of life that he was for so many throughout his life. Please join us in a Celebration of Life for Matt on his birthday Friday, January 19th at the Brass Rail Sports Bar in Kansas City, 4940 NE 81st St. We will start around 6:00 pm and conclude when we can no longer hold a drink in our hand.
