Matthew's obituary
Matthew Clarence Stewart, 48, of Oregon City, Oregon passed away on May 15th, 2024, in Portland, Oregon. Honoring Matt, his final act of kindness provided the gift of life to many people in need, through organ donation.
Matt was born on March 20, 1976, to Susan Marie and Robert Preston Stewart Jr in Portland, Oregon and lived his life in Canby, Oregon and Oregon City, Oregon. Matt had a passion for Eastern Oregon and enjoyed time away at his property in Three Rivers Lake Billy Chinook located in Culver, OR.
Matt received his GED May 16th, 1994. Matt always had a knack for all things mechanical, and Matt completed an auto mechanic course at Canby High School. After high school, Matt decided to further his education and in 2006 received a degree in automotive technology from Clackamas Community College. Matt’s hard work and dedication during his program did not go unnoticed and he was recognized for his outstanding achievements and awarded two scholarships, the B-29, and the Niemeyer Scholarship. Matt’s ability to secure scholarships reflected his exceptional talent and potential, as well as determination to succeed. After graduating Clackamas Community College Matt became an ASE certified Master Technician. In 2007, Matt and Keenan Moore opened K & M Automotive and eventually, Matt became sole proprietor. K & M Automotive is still thriving and Matt’s expertise and experience drove the success of his business, and he continually led the team with focus on integrity and professionalism. K&M has grown multiple locations and has a solid reputation in honest, high-quality service at a fair price.
With Matt’s success, he made sure to pay it forward and give back to his community by providing a scholarship each year and speaking to students to encourage individuals to continue reaching for their goals. Matt’s legacy is memorialized on the donor wall at Clackamas Community College, in the Niemeyer building. Matt’s philanthropy extends with Portland Home Builders Foundation, in collaboration, to raise money and build shelters for at-risk women and children. Matt shared “I personally don’t think I could be in the position that I am today without the support and encouragement I received in my early years from the people who cared about me and supported me.” Matt was a very generous and caring man and would do his best to help anyone that he could.
Matt’s adventurous characteristics are as enthusiastic as his entrepreneurial spirit. Matt had a love for the ocean and in 2010 received his underwater scuba certification, his private pilot license in 2016, and had a love affair with his motorcycles and dirt bikes. Matt enjoyed boating, mountain biking, skateboarding, skiing, poker, Hawaii, and Mexico. Matt was an adventurous and spontaneous soul, and always ready to conquer the next adventure. He did not know the term “at rest” and was always doing something as a determined and focused individual who always gave his best effort. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were unmatched and his ability to tackle any activity, personal or professional head-on and excel was truly remarkable, earning him respect and admiration of those around him.
Matt was enthusiastic about his business, but his children Sam and Preston were the motivation and driving force to Matt’s success. Matt was an amazing father and Sam and Preston were the reason for his being. Matt’s hard work and determination paid off as he was able to create a comfortable and stable environment for his children to thrive. Matt did not measure his success in his professional achievements, but in the stability and well being of his children. Sam and Preston were his greatest accomplishment of all.
His recent purchase of a ranch in Madras, Oregon, highlighted his enterprising spirit and vision for the future. Matt invested in a ranch and planned to raise bison, as well as build teepees for accommodation and a bed and breakfast. Matt continually demonstrated his innovative approach by combining his personal interests and passion with business opportunities.
Matthew is survived by his parents Robert Preston Stewart and Susan Marie Stewart; Brittany Kathleen Anstine, mother of Matthew’s beautiful children, Sam Stewart, and Preston Matthew Stewart; brother Thomas Stewart and wife Valeree Stewart; brother Peter Stewart and wife Andrea Stewart; sister Vicky Stewart and partner Jeremy Miller; and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Matt is missed by all who were blessed to know him, and Matt will live forever in our memories.
