Matthew's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Senette, age 41, who left this world on February 13, 2025, in Charenton, Louisiana. A man of deep passions, Matthew lived a life full of adventure, friendship, and love.

A memorial service to celebrate Matthew’s life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, Louisiana. Public visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of The Liturgy of The Word Service at 1:00 PM. Deacon Gerry Bourg will officiate the Liturgy.

Born and raised in Louisiana, Matthew had a natural love for the outdoors. Whether he was hunting in the woods or casting a line in the water, he found his peace in nature. A longtime member of West Over Bayou Hunting Club, he cherished the camaraderie of his fellow sportsmen and the thrill of the chase.

Matthew spent 25 years in the oil and gas industry, working in production. His work ethic and dedication were unmatched, and he built lasting relationships with colleagues who became like brothers to him.

Matthew was proud of Sennette’s Grocery Store, which was once a cherished part of his family’s history. Though it was later sold, the store remained in the family during Matthew’s childhood, and it held a special place in his heart. His father, Boyd, meant the world to him.

A longstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, Matthew was a man of faith who valued tradition, service, and community. He also had a competitive spirit—especially when it came to fantasy football, where he prided himself on his strategic prowess. And no matter how tough the season was, he remained a die-hard New York Jets fan, always believing that next year would be the one.

Beyond his love for sports and the outdoors, Matthew had a creative and soulful side. He was an excellent cook, known for bringing people together over a good meal, and he never hesitated to fire up the grill or the stove for friends. He also loved to sing country songs, his voice carrying through the room with heart and spirit.

But above all, Matthew was a devoted father. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his beloved daughter, Lanie, at her dance recitals—he was her biggest fan, always cheering her on with pride. With his son, Nolan, he embraced the simple joys of childhood, crawling on the ground and playing dinosaurs, making memories that will forever be cherished.

Matthew leaves behind a legacy of laughter, friendship, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, his spirit forever hunting, fishing, and singing along to his favorite country tunes.

Fly high, Matthew. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.

Matthew is survived by his loving children, Lanie Senette and Nolan Senette; his father, Boyd Senette; his brother, Zachary Senette, and his wife Helen; his maternal grandparents, Nelton and Joyce Gaspard; his niece, Kaydee Senette; as well as a host of extended family and friends whom he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Valarie Senette; his paternal grandparents; Richard and Virginia Senette.

Ibert's Mortuary of Franklin, LA, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
