Matt's obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew (Matt) Sampson Boone on October 16, 2022 at the age of 37. Matt is survived by his mother Beverly, Edmonton; Brother Mike (Andrea Kirby), Edmonton; Nephew Cameron; Niece Ellie; Uncle William (Tracey) Sampson, Calgary; Aunts Valerie (Roland) Williams, Antigonish NS, and Sylvia Millett, Monastery NS; numerous extended family members and many friends. He is predeceased by his father Leo and grandparents Joe and Marie Boone and William and Beatrice Sampson.

Matt was born and raised in Fort McMurray, becoming a journeyman heavy duty mechanic before moving to Calgary in 2008. He continued working as a mechanic during his time in Calgary, most recently at RJames Western Star, where he enjoyed his time and took great pride in his work.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed playing golf and cheering for his favorite teams, the Calgary Flames, Manchester United, and (most importantly) the Dallas Cowboys. While Matt enjoyed many things in life, there was nothing that brought him more joy than becoming an uncle to Cameron in 2017, and again to Ellie in 2021. While he only had a short time with Cameron and Ellie, he made lasting memories that will stay with them through their lives.

A celebration of Matt’s life will be held on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 12:30-2:30 pm at Killarney-Glengarry Community Hall (2828 28 Street SW in Calgary, AB).

Throughout his life, Matt was plagued with, mostly undiagnosed, mental health issues, which lead to severe alcohol dependency. Unfortunately, in recent months Matt’s addiction became unmanageable, ultimately leading to his tragic passing. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local alcohol, addiction, or mental health treatment facility or the Canadian Mental Health Association - Alberta Division (https://alberta.cmha.ca/) Our hope is that this may prevent other families from having to go through this unimaginable experience.
