I will always remember Matty P. The summer before he joined VMI lacrosse I remember hearing all about this stud player from New York was coming down. He was certainly a stud, quick and fast on the attack. 07/08 was a great year for VMI lacrosse, Matt played a big role. He was always making us laugh, there was never a dull moment on that team. I had the privilege of sharing some of the best memories of my life on that team with Matt.
We had not spoke in years, but I followed his journey loosely on social media and saw that he was living a good life, blessed to become a father of two beautiful boys. I hope that you have found peace brother.

Matt,
Everyone that had the pleasure of knowing you knew you were absolutely one of a kind. Loyal, humble, and genuinely a good dude to your core.
I’m grateful to have called you a friend, a teammate, and quite possibly the messiest roommate I’ve ever had the pleasure of living with while at the Institute, lol! Really going to miss you bud - until we meet again Matty 🍻
Dassy 🤙🏼

Matt, where do I even begin?
When you and I first met down in Savannah, Georgia, when I was on a trip visiting Megan, we absolutely did not see eye to eye, and we butted heads like no other 😂 I even remember getting in a yelling argument with you and then pulling Megan aside, sharing how much I hated you lol. But by the end of that trip, you and I had formed a connection and a bond that could honestly never be broken. You became one of my closest friends, and loved my best friend and your boys with all your heart.
I am going to miss your quick wit, constant roasting of eachother, your passion for this country and being the messenger between you and my Dad for anything army related. You made a best friend with everyone you met no matter how long or little you had known them. We had so many fun times together but my favorite memories will be of us planning my surprise trip to Hawaii, countless adventures just the three of us and celebrating our weddings together.
Although cut short, your duty on earth is now done. We love you Matty P🤍

Matty was my buddy from Day 1 at VMI. Living a few doors down and a few lockers away on the lax team. I’ll always cherish those moments with him, remembering his laughter, calling everyone “bud” and telling everyone he loves them. I learned more about Tully, NY than I ever thought I would. He will be missed by so many but never forgotten. Love ya bud.

My Brother Rat Matt had a big big heart and loved to care for and look out for others. He lived with that heart, that approach to life, until his passing. Love you, BR. Rest easy, we will always think of you.

I never met Matt in person, but have known his mom, Darlene, for 47 years. We met when she was on a tour from Syracuse to Honolulu in 1975 & her group stayed at the hotel at which I was employed. We have kept in contact all these years. Last summer when Darlene told me Matt was getting transferred to O’ahu, I helped them find a realtor … Matt & Megan ended up renting a lovely home a couple blocks from a friend’s daughter’s home. I got Matt’s cell number to let him know a goodie bag would be dropped by & had my friend buy & deliver some locally made things: choc covered macadamia nuts, pancake mix, coconut syrup, teriyaki sauce, passion-guava jam, cookies, etc. I got to talk to Matt. He was appreciative & shocked! His early departure from Earth will leave a huge hole in the hearts off all who loved him. May he rest in love & peace, & may Darlene & Phil, & big brother Michael, CeCe, Megan & those beautiful boys find peace. It sounds like Matt will be the life of the party in Heaven. I’m so very sorry.

I met Matty P through mutual friends when he was stationed in Savannah! Not too long after, Meg moved to Savannah for grad school at SCAD, and they started dating. We all lived dt at the time and I have such wonderful memories of going out and having fun with them both!!
One memory in particular was a day out on the water! One of the guys rented a boat from base and, by some miracle, we navigated our way to little Tybee. Matty P, Steve and Tony had to chase off some kids on the beach that tried to steal our beer while we were on a walk. 😂
Great memories with that Savannah military “fam.” ❤️

I remembered when 1LT picked me up in the flight line and I was like oh shoot, this dip addicted officer that will fried my Puertorrican ass. He was my OIC, collage and most a good friend. I gave him haircuts and share some good indirect fire and check our pants after lol. He always listened to me a respected me as a NCO and person, but always mentioned that Sgt Arroyo can't be on the radio because my englis was all fucked up. hahahahha. I met Megan in his apartment in downtown and I knew Matt was in love. He always called with some drinks on his head and we have always a good conversation. My condolences to Meg, kiddos and rest of the family. I will miss your calls brother. Fly high, see you soon.
