Matthew's obituary

On Thursday, April 23, 2020, Matthew Anthony Orsi, age 74, of Yonkers, New York, peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home.

Matthew was born on June 3, 1945 in the Bronx, NY to the late Rose Marie Parrillo-Orsi and Umberto Orsi. As one of eight brothers and sisters, Matthew didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. At the age of 9 years old, he became a baker, where he developed an admirable work ethic, which eventually led him to open his own bakery.

Matthew joined the New York City Police Department as a Police Officer in Fort Apache, the Bronx in April of 1968. He was a well-respected Police Officer throughout the Bronx and Manhattan; and was promoted to Detective in the Narcotics Division; later moving to the Midtown North Detective Squad. Throughout his career he received countless awards and commendations. He retired from the NYPD as a highly-decorated Detective in 1988. He became a licensed NYS Private Investigator and the President/Owner of Citywide Investigators & Security, Inc. He later began a second career as Executive Security for the President of The Nasdaq Stock Market, where he received the President’s Award for his service during 9/11. He retired in 2015.

Matthew was dedicated to his family - he cared deeply for his wife; would move mountains for his daughters; lovingly doted on his grandson; was loyal to his mother and siblings; and overall was a supportive son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend. He was known for his integrity, work ethic, and generosity. He was an avid hunter in his younger years; and throughout his life, enjoyed baking bread and pastries, sipping on a ‘Grey Goose martini, extra dry, straight up, filled to the top with one olive’, and observing beautiful sunsets over the Chesapeake Bay.

Matthew is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene; his two loving daughters, Regina Ann Orsi-Hoholik of Middletown, NY, and Liza Marie (Orsi) Black and her husband Christopher of North Plainfield, NJ; his grandson, Nicolas Black; his sister, Phyllis Antush; and many loving nieces, nephews, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose; his brothers - Raymond, Albert, and Joseph; his sisters - Mary Rotolo, Carmela Sica, and Antoinette Valedon; and his beautiful daughter, Joey Ann Orsi.

Private Visitation and Burial will be held for immediate family. However, the family welcomes those who wish to view the Honor Guard Ceremony and departure of the Funeral Procession with NYPD escort to gather across the street from Flower Funeral Home at 714 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704 on Monday, April 27, 2020 at approximately 11:15am.

In lieu of flowers, the family will be making a donation to the Detectives' Endowment Association Widows' and Children Fund in memory of Retired Detective Matthew A. Orsi, Shield # 249. Please consider contributing donations by visiting https://everloved.com/life-of…

A Memorial Service will be announced for a later date for Matthew and his brother, Albert, who passed away two weeks earlier.
