Matthew Lee "Matt" Burns, age 65, passed away at home on January 9, 2026, in Brunswick, Ohio.
Born on October 2, 1960, in Bowling Green, Ohio, Matt developed a deep connection to the natural world early in life—one that would shape his passions and pursuits for decades to come. He was especially drawn to the water and became an avid fisherman, dedicating countless hours to his favorite pastime. A master angler with a particular love for Walleye fishing, Matt was always in pursuit of “the big one,” a quest that brought him joy and purpose throughout his life.
Matt is lovingly remembered by his wife, Violet May Burns (née Spader), and his precious cat Peaches aka PP who stood by his side through life’s many seasons. He is also survived by his brother Marshall Burns and Marshall’s wife Jane, as well as his sister Maralee Burns Noone and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Janice Burns and his brother Mark Burns.
May Matthew Lee Burns’ enduring love for the outdoors and unwavering spirit bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in every cast line and every ripple across Ohio’s lakes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 06:00 PM at Mulligan’s, 20880 Royalton Rd., Strongsville, Ohio.
